Can anyone help?
Had a strange request off a friend of mine who restores and races classic bikes, especially Ducati's..

He's come up with an idea, and has asked me if anyone can help get him the right information, so here goes

1. Is there a big bore kie available for a 999, if so up to what capacity, and how much, and where to get one?

2. Does anyone have any engine schematics, photos, drawings of the internals of a supermono

Can you guess what he's thinking?

Cheers

I think you will find the answer to 1 is Yes, as I understand it JHP do a big bore kit for the 999, somebody did mention the cc but I can't recall.
As for the supermono I will check th article in the RPM magazine I have, see what pics they put in.

There was talk of Ducati doing a 1080 cc big bore version of the testastretta (or it could be a big stroke version since the bore is already 100mm). In the same article it mentioned that JHP have already done a 1080 conversion. They certainly have with the 992cc Dual Spark two valver that currently powers the Monster 1000, 1000 SS and Mutistrada, both JHP and Sigma do 1080 conversions.

I found THIS bore and stroke calculator for most of Ducatis engines so it gives some idea of what might be possible with a bit of mix and match

If i remember correctly the 999 bigbore kit uses 999r pistons and barrels (106mm) with 999s crank giving 1080 cc,also i think i remember John saying about a 1200cc unit he had built (but dont quote me!)

According to MSN, Ducati will be releasing a 1080cc bike in the future to compete against the current breed of Jap bikes
