www.grisoft.com

Just get the AVG Free Edition, works a treat.

Add Zone Alarm if you need a firewall.

And Spybot 1.3 if you need anti spyware stuff .... seems to look after my laptop.

Thanks mate.

Another vote for AVG Free. Website here http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php Had endless problems with Norton AV, been fine with AVG Free.

For a firewall I use Sygate Personal Firewall (Again free) http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm . I find it's less of a pain than the Zonealarm equivalent.

I have recently been recommended to ditch Norton and use AVAST. It's free, regular updates and does atttempt to fix the damaged files where Norton invariably says it cannot.

I also use AdAware as an Adware/Spyware prevention. Works well, cheap (£30?) and has rescused many friends PCs from "death by adware". It removed over 2000 adware objects from a neighbours PC, it was taking half an hour just to boot it.
