fork oil
As I have got to change the fork seals on my 600 monster. It dives and wallows terribly as is, sowhat fork oil can I use which will stiffen it a bit? Can I just add a bit more than standard to add stiffness? Also, anyone know where I can get stiffer fork springs off the shelf but at a reasonsable price?
Cheers

Are you planning on doing this yourself or taking it somewhere?

I would be interested if you do it yourself....I was under the impresion that it was a bit of a pig to do it fully (ie springs etc) without specialist tools required etc?

For what its worth, I have just had mine done by 'shockwave' , recommended by K-tech as they are flat out at the moment. He works for Rizla Suzuki and othe BSB teams...seemed very knowledgeable and his workshop/van/garage was immaculate.

He did a full service on my Ohlins front forks, seals, Ohlins oil, new (uprated) ohlins springs for £150 all in, which I think is about average.

I can turf out his number if you are interested?

I have the old ohlins fork springs (i think they are 9.0 mm/kg) here if you want them for a small sum...don't know if they will fit the forks on your monster or not though? Probably not thinking about it???

The forks are different diameter so I'd imagine they wouldn't fit.

Hyperpro springs are what you want ... call Perry at www.hmracing.co.uk (Orpington, Kent) or Neil Spalding at www.sigmaperformance.co.uk (Tonbridge, Kent).... both will be able to advise and help ...

Failing that try Steve at www.stevejordanmotorcycles.co.uk (nr Box Hill)

The earlier SS and Monster forks are a doddle to work on, the forks on the latter 620's are a bit harder to get apart but still a bit easier than the Showas on 748/916's etc.

The later 620s and 748/9*6 use a 43mm stanchion where as the early 600's use a 40mm as such the earlier bikes run a spring with a smaller outside diameter. On my 600SS my 916 Ohlins springs wouldn't fit so I used Ohlins springs meant for a VTR1000 Firestorm which funs 41mm fork legs.
These were rated at 0.85kg/mm bradderrs you may need a bit more say 0.9kg/mm.

Kev - helpful as always, but what fork oil is best? Just get some stuff from Halfrauds? And can I overfill to get a stiffer affect

The place I use in Oxford sells Castrol in different grades, you can add some more to increase the effect of the air-spring but it can make your seal go easier. If the air gap is less then as the forks compress the pressure builds at a faster rate.
