Mav,
you need to get down to Southend-on-Sea. It's got the longest pleasure pier in the world, although the end is slightly charred.

When you come to leave, the joy you get from seeing the town disappear in your mirrors in unsurpassed (especially if you're still in one piece).

Hope this helps

You're not wrong Mav.

Did I mention the views across to the gas terminal on Canvey Island?

I'd suggest the Nurburgring myself

sorry for that Keith, i have a certain fondness for the Massif Central, the Alps, Cote D'Azur and the Pyrennes, but i'm sure you've done all that, so why not try Croatia (dirt cheap) or i really enjoyed riding round mainland Greece away from all the tourists, again v cheap and v friendly, but a bit of a trip getting there.

Or how about further east in the Alps into Austria and Northern Italy. You could try all the high mountain passes in the Alps, the highest in Europe being the Col de la Bonnette at just over 9000 feet, you can link that to another 6 or 7 passes.

Or the SS Montgomery - a munitions ship that ran aground and sank just off the coast during the second world war?

It's packed with highly unstable explosives that could ignite and destroy much of Essex and Kent any second. You don't get that kind of excitement on the Cote D'azur:P

a bit biased, but croatia is one of my favourites at the moment. if you are on bikes cruising along the coast road down the dalmatian coast would take some beating i recon.

and i know of a couple of great places where you could stay over if you want to as well.

South of France is nice this time of year, Nimes, Arles, Avignon then down to Frejus area, sun, good food, nice roads and a bit quieter in September.
