TV Problem
A mate of mine wants to give me his 32 inch 100 hz thompson widescreen tv. He's just moved house and the tv doesnt work very well in the new house! So i said rather then chuck it out he should give it to me. Now he's telling me that sometimes it won't turn on. The sound comes on but you have to work the switch two or three times to get the picture to start up.
I seem to remember reading that a fault like that is serious, power supply or something. Anyone got any ideas?

Could be a problem with the switched mode power supply not firing up properly!

Anyway as its a Thompson you might as well just bin it!

Thats what i though! Most people think its the switch but i was sure i'd heard that switch mode psu problems give that fault. Think i'll tell him to forget it and save me the bother of finding a skip for a huge thing like that!
Many thanks.

I've had power supply fixed on a Toshiba widescreen, didn't cost too much (if you call £50 not too much) .

Main problem is that i've got one chance of getting this thing home. I've got to borrow the works car then i'm stuck with it at home! If its not something i can sort myself then i'll leave it alone i think!

Can't really argue with that

Generally the electrolytic caps in switch mode power supplys need changing, the heat generated by this type of power supply doesn't do them alot of good.
Used to get kits of caps from companies like SEME in Melton Mowbray for various manufacturers power supplies, used to be a real pain in Sky receivers.
