After posting on the sussex meet thread i had a thought (yes one does enter my head occasionally
)
where did the term 'Brass Monkey Weather' come from????

a brass monkey being the triangel of brass used to hold cannon balls
which on cold weather the brass would contract more than the iron balls and they would then fall off
