Only in France !!!
Charles de Gaulle airport this morning after catching the first flight out of Heathrow....

Thinks: Gotta catch the metro across Paris...then I've gotta catch a taxi at the other end to get to the office....haven't got any Euros...need to find a cashpoint....can't find one....c'mon, must be one about here somewhere, it's an airport ffs...still can't find one...Ah, there's the American Express bureau de change, I'll get some Euros on my corporate card....

"Deux cent Euros sil vous plait" I said offering my card across..."Have you got another card sir, we don't take American Express"

"So you don't accept Amex cards at the American Express bureau de change"

"Non !!!"

Strange to the point of being totally unbelievable - but true

Bet they would have taken US dollars though.

Had something similar in 1993, got to the Mt Blanc tunnel on the bike. Heaving it down with rain, so thought we'd use the tunnel as a large hairdrier to dry out a bit in.

Checks wallet, Bu9ger no Francs, never mind we're all in the EU now, so offer the toll man a 10 quid note. Non!
*****!! what are we going to do? Copper up in Lire, Marks , Franc Belgique et Swiss and a couple of Frog Francs we found and just made the total in scrap change. He took all the European money but would not touch good old quids sterling.

Assieds-toi sur mon majeur et pivote-toi coup de torchon du derriere!!

Ains.

Quick update: Second leg of my trip after a whistle stop day in Paris

Back in the taxi to Orly airport for an evening flight to Lyon. I've been to Lyon airport hundreds of times, but I haven't bothered with hire cars from there for a while 'cos the hotel I usually stay in is only 15 minutes cab ride away and right across the road from the office.

So, off to the desks where the hire cars used to be and....they've moved them offsite. Now had to wait 15 mins for a shuttle to the hire car offices. Arrived at Hertz to pick up my car and was told...

"Sorry Monseur, we have no cars", and for dramatic effect waved a hand at a completely empty Hertz car park !!!

"But, I've got a Gold Card reservation", I bleat pitifully (this is supposed to be a solid gold confirmation that your car will be all ready to go - no need even to do any paperwork).

A gallic shrug of the shoulders " ...ave you tried Avis?"

French customer service...it rocks! You have to laugh or else you'd cry
