Modified airbox lid and K&N filter?
Has anyone opened up the airbox lid and fitted a K&N filter to their SSie bike? Was there any appreciable gain or improvement when correctly set up?

I'm thinking of doing this to one of my 800ss bikes together with a Power Commander and some DP pipes I have.

I have access to a dyno so, I can tweak fuelling to my heart's content.

I've done several now without any real problems. The PC should allow any fine tuning. Without it you may see a small dip in the mid range but the top end is freed up a bit.
Induction noise is great to

Well I've done the airbox mod and it sounds fantastic. I'm now waiting for a Power Commander and pipes. Then I'm going to do some dyno work. I'm hoping for in excess 80bhp which, would be nice.

I fitted a K&N filter to my 1000ss last year and it definitely made a difference although I havent put it on a dyno or anything. It pulls harder for longer for sure than it did with the standard filter although Ive also got gorgeous race cans fitted from Two Brothers Racing which Im sure help too! The noise is incredible if nothing else absolutely fantastic booming sound especially on the over run...

Havent fitted a PC and funnily enough have been thinking that maybe I should as I read recently you can damage your engine if you dont?

The ss injection system does not have an 02 sensor in the exhaust system so, it has no idea what the mixture is doing. If you fit a free-er flowing filter and pipes then the chances are that you will need to check the mixture - if it's burning lean then you may well cause some long term damage. If the injection is like my 800ss system then it's completely unadajustable so, a PC or an FIM Ultimap ECU is the way to go.
