How fat is your wallet?

Cheapest way to get drive is to change your gearing. Then a lightened flywheel etc ... then you you need to start spending money!

Depending when your bike was last serviced, things like throttle sensor's and various other's need to be spot on and can make a huge differance to how the bike performs. The gearing on the 996 (Standard ) is fairly high compared to other bikes , dropping a tooth from the front sprocket will help to increase acceleration. 4D

... did you remember to smile and wave at the two of them as they pleaded for their lives to the local speed-tax enforcement officers (cops) ?

bet they still both wanted a go on the 996

You could always not bite and let them go, knowing you'll arrive at your destination in style and on a bike people will notice when you park up

To be honest mate, if you're having trouble with them two bikes, it's you who need addressing not the bike. If they can leave you like that.... you need to learn what the rev limiter and the throttle stop are.

as weeksy says.....thrash it harder!! On the road, I would have thought 996 would keep up with most things at failry sane speeds

you know me mate.. i always tell it how i see it... I've seen Fil2 sticking with Gixer 1000 K1's both pinned on his 748S. Not saying i'm the best myself, but it can be done if you crack it on.
