MP3 problem
Daughter has just bought a MP3 player, a Q-BE from Currys. Although when I connect it via USB it recognises it in "My Computer" as a Removable device when I try and access it it comes up with "J:\not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"
I am running Windows XP home edition.
Anybody got any ideas, please?

Did it come with a CD? as it will need it`s own program that you down load the music to then you down load the music from there to your MP3 player.

Chris.

Thats the strange thing, my other daughter has a Sony MP3 and this came with software to download music, as you say.
The only software that came with it, is a disc which it says you need if you have Windows98SE in order to allow it to be detected.
You are supposed to put music on it by copying and pasting or dragging and dropping files.

Col,

Check on the manufacturer's website. They may have a driver for it there.

I can load MP3's onto my wife's £40 player straight through Windows Explorer as it shows up as a 'removable device'. I simply 'drag' them from my 'My Music' directory onto the new drive.

Thanks for the advice Guido. No luck though. No drivers on the website.
I'm thinking the player must be at fault. Off to Currys tomorrow to try another.

Just a thought, it is a USB 2.0 device and you are trying to plug it into an earlier type USB Port???

XP should recognise the device without the need for a disc.
My daughter has a cheapy MP3 player and its a doddle to use.Just plug it in the usb then click on it in 'my computer'.(Removable disc)
Then click on 'start' and open up 'my music'.
Click and drag the music files you want into the MP3 player. Most MP3 players will play wma files as well as MP3.

I think you answered your own question there, it won't run at all on xp unless you can find a patch from the makers website or you retro fit windows 98se !!!

It is definately sold as ok for windows XP.
I now have a replacement one and this behaves the same. We tried it in the shop on a p.c and it seemed to work. The only difference I could see was that the p.c in the shop had itunes loaded on but this shouldn't make a difference.
When I plug it in and go to My Computer it sees it as a Removable device(J) but won't let me do anything else. When I try to close My Computer down it won't let me and comes up with a End Task box and everything runs slower. Even when I try and do a Remove USB device it takes an age to respond.
