Hi all, I've just replaced the forks and wheels, all seemed to go together without any problems.. That is till this morning when out on maiden run.... looked down at speedo and it was ground out on 0...

Any suggestion as to where i've gone wrong? can't seem any obvious signs.. will get a pic on speedo on the front wheel, to see if anyone with better knowledge can see something obvious..

Favourite is that you have over tightened the spindle nut and cracked the speedo drive (well thats what i did anyhow!!)

Oh and you don't need a speedo for the MOT.

when you refitted the front end, the locator for the speedo cable needs to be at a certain angle, if not you stretch and break the cable internally, a mistake often made by tyre fitters not familiar with dukes at it has a habit of rotating when the wheel is removed / fitted.

Just follow the cable down and turn the handle bars both ways, you wil see immediately any tightness ...

New speedo cables are abou £12 I think .... easy fix so dont worry ....

It could be that when you fitted the wheel you didnt line up the speedo drive with the dogs in the wheel.They are just a thin bit of tin that is very easily bent.I seem to remember it fit in the wheel with a circlip,or summat.Very easy to whip it out and straighten up.

seems like fault has been found, my part time (mechanic/botch artist) has realised the errors of his ways, and will be Punished in due course..

I would have thought you would have fitted the offening item as your wheel was in place when I got there.

Bit like work this isn't it, I have to check everything you do to make sure it's right

Easy done,me 'ol mate Clarkmeister did exactly the same on his 748.
