Mugello moto GP...thinking of going, any tips/advice?
Me and her are thinking of having a long weekend in Italy sometime soon, and...well...wouldn't it be great if I could tie it in with the Italian MotoGP at Mugello.

We were thinking of staying in Rome, and driving up for the Sunday Race day only.

I've never been to Mugello before...any advice on best places to spectate etc. as I would like to by some tickets asap.

Broggins...where are you when I need you...

I have been twice and just bought tickets on the gate.Because camping is allowed trackside, you cant just buy a friday ticket only.If you go friday to watch the qualifying you have to buy a ticket for the whole weekend.Sat/Sun tickets are available on friday evening onwards.Loads of ticket sellers/booths on the aproach roads to the circuit. If you really must buy your tickets before you go,try someone like Big Rock or Moto Events.Ducati usually have a grandstand at the Correntaio curve,...tickets,(I think) are available on line at ducati.com or Italian dealers.A two day ticket on the gate was 115 Euro's last year.
If you go for grandstand tickets make sure you enter the circuit by the nearest entrance,...its a bloody long walk round if you want to be on the other side of the track. For the Correntaio/Ducati stand you need to be coming in from Scarperia.
Last year I watched the action from the fast downhill Casanova. This is the banking where all the partisan fans watch from.Enter here from Borgo San Lorenzo.
The atmoshere is electric. There is a huge video screen there and the fans go wild when their heroes appear.Shame 'ol Max wont be there,...he love strutting about and posing to the fathfull.
The noise around the circuit is incredible with folks revving the knackers off unsilenced bikes, scooters, airhorns and chainsaws!!
Race day you need to be in the circuit by silly o'clock to garantee you wont miss any action.Last year I was in my place at 6am.By 8am you cannot move.Slightly easier if you have a grandstand ticket, but be warned,...most of the roads to the circuit are very narrow and become gridlocked in no time,so set out early.Parking is in the local farmers field and costs around 10 Euros for the weekend. If you arrive late, just do what everyone else does and leave the car on the side of the road. Bikes can park in the circuit,....if you can find a space.
Its bound to be mega hot,so take lots of water,a cap for your head and sun cream.
Oh yeah,....and be prepared for a very, very long wait to get out of the circuit,.......

staying in rome and driving up for the race??? getting in by car takes forever(and a bit) and thats fron bologna - either stay very very close or take a bike/scooter/fold up pushbike but it takes ages to get in....THEN to get out takes twice as long so don't plan anything like catching a flight home until the next day. fantatsic place to watch a race though - enjoy!

Start finish straight grandstand has a roof-all the others are out in the open. As all the others have said-fantastic place to watch racing-nightmare to get in and out-it can literally take hours-in blasing sunshine so prepare to get cooked.

Hi Harv, Brogins back from a nice week vacation in Italy... with no-wanted connection to the web!!

Well, the guys above have described quite well the Hell scenario that Mugello can present in the three days for the motoGP. It is not going to be easy...
The way that me and my friends from Florence center usually approach race day is:
Decide which Van to take (we all race motorcycles..)
Fill it with 50cc Scooters (everyone has a scooter in Florence..500.000 people, 300.000 scooters/motorbikes - seriousily) and people (by law max three people in the front, on race day we managed three in the front and four in the back with 4 scooters)
Drive the van up to SAN PIERO A SIEVE (20 minutes or less from the track)... Park the van, take the scooters and ride to the track.
The scooters better be to be able to go offroad, to get out from the circuit after the race not only on tarmac as the traffic of bikes is orrendous. Of Course we race each other to get back to the van and the last couple (usually couple, as we are all riding two people on the scooter - illegal ) - pay the dinner... :lol

If you are planning to stay in Rome, it is impossible to travel on race day. Well, it is possible, but is going to become a nightmare trip. Rome Florence by car are three hours. Florence - Mugello not knowing the road and using the motorway another hour - These time are in normal days - In race day it is impossible to forecast any travel time around the area.
That's what I would do...
http://www.ecomoverent.com/scooter/Scooter_250.asp
You can rent a 250cc scooter... confortable for two people for the weekend and able to do 130KM/h (max speed 155Km/h, 160..) on the motorway no problem. You leave on saturday from rome and you take it easy to Florence doing some tourist things too. You can find a bed and breakfast near Florence or in Florence (not bad idea where to spend the saturday night) - I can help with some suggestions) - On sunday morning you wake up at 6 am and you drive the scooter to the circuit - you can buy the ticket on line now even at Ducati.com (for the place where to sit and see I agree with the comments above.. ) - On the way back... you have more than 300Km to do on a Scooter to get back to Rome on Sunday..hard but duable..
Well, if you decide to stay in Florence instead of rome.. all become easier and you need to find a scooter (even 50cc) in Florence.. U2U me and I will tell you where.
See you soon as soon stop to rain.... well was 26 degree sunny in Italy this morning!!!
