Carbs cleaning and bad surprise

I miss riding on the road too much, so today I started to service my 600M myself (please don't laugh), hoping to put it back on the road in the next few weeks.

So I started by cleaning the carbs, went almost well until I noticed that one of the 2 "membrane" (sorry don't know the name in English) was cut in one place (see attached pix). Do I need to replace it (I would think so but have no idea of what it does... so maybe that's not that important). If so what's the cheapest way to source one?

Thanks in advance for your help. When the carbs are cleaned and fitted on the bike, then I'll change the belts. Lots of fun to come

It's called a diaphram. It looks a bit fooked too

You defo will need to replace that, coz it acts as a seal (sort of thing) so even a pin hole would mean it wouldn't work properly.

You will have to replace the diaphragm as this is a very important part of the fuel system. The diaphragm lifts the main needle valve by the suction caused when opening the butterfly valve in the air intake.

Aaaaahhh!! Brings back nightmares for me. This part perished on my M600 too but on the ride home from Rugby. It ended up riding like it had really bad turbo lag. Nothing nothing nothing waaaaaaa!!! You can live with this when there is no traffic around but when you are close behind a carit can be a bit scary!!!

Took ages forme to get replacements but that was because it was August and Italy was shut. But I'm sure there are enough people here that can help you find spares. Check the other one too because even a slight crack in the rubber will mean things don't work properly.

it seems the other one is fine. I don't know where I read that most of the time it happens to the front carb (I mean the carb linked to the front barrel).

Yamaha TDM/TRX850 uses the same carb. You might be able to get one easier from a Yamaha dealer.
