Is replacing the standard front sprocket on a 916 with a 14tooth item a good thing to do? I have heard that it will change the acceleration and driveability??
What pitch chain is the exisitng item? 525 or 520??

You might find your 916 is already on a 14T. If it's on a 15, then swapping will increase acceleration. Standard chain should be a 525

Yep , quite a common mod , means you can actually use sixth gear

If your chain needs replacing soon best go up on the rear rather than down on the front


But if the chain is good then 14 on the front is ok ,but is more stressfull on the chain than going up on the rear


I have mailed you a gearing chart that was posted a while ago by another member , dont know who though , but thanks to whoever it was

I know this conversation has been done before, but, the current 749S probably puts out similar power to an early 916. 749's come with 14t front sprocket as standard.

Therefore with my limited knowledge I would say fitting a 14t to an early type standard 916 will be no more stressful to the chain than the current 749S is.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, I'm going up 2 on the rear of my 748 pretty soon - will it be fun?

My B600 is down 1 tooth on the front and it's like sh*t off a shovel off the line and through the gears - just ask the owners of the Ferrari 355 or the 911 4S it's creamed in the last couple of months :P......but it will only do about 95mph now (not that you'd want to go any faster than that on a nekkid)

The 748 has 14/38 as standard.

I would go 3 teeth up on the back to really make a difference. Anyway, you will have to fit a 96 link chain

Thanks for the software. I didn't know there is so much difference even by changing the rear tyre.

I have a 916 with 2:1 primary ratio, 14:36 sprockets and a 180/55/17 rear tyre.

With the 180 profile is overgeared comparing to the 190 profile. I have a standard box that cracked so i will fit a close ratio (748) one.

I'm really curious how it will be?
