I thought my name was quite apt, but clearly i underestimated this !

Last Friday was pottering back froma coffee stop, its about 4 miles home but of course takes 30+ on a nice day.....

Proceeding at a leisurely pace following cars around a medium left hander the traffic stops suddenly and i overreact with the front brake...... and the front washes out.

Only doing about 35 so not hurt but my wallet is facing a major hammering :-(

So the question dear Ducatisti is : do i pay the good people at P&H a fortune to replace the fairings, mirrors, lh handlebar, tank, monoposto rear section etc etc with all new ducati parts, or is there a better way ???

Looking on ebay there are a few of the parts that i need advertised, but by no means all of them.

The bike is an 04 999s registered in 05, so not been on the road a year yet.
I pretty much expect to keep the bike forever, so whilst i dont mind spending a fair amount on it i dont want to throw money away.

Sounds like its gonna cost a lot.

Are you TPFT or Comprehensive on insurance?

Am fully comp but not sure i want to claim and be paying overinflated premiums for years ???

if comp get it done on insurance.
if not then shop on ebay to just get what you need to get safely back on the road. you will look like a trackday hero
save up for the winter and then get replacement bits by shopping around at dealers.

p & H are good, but are not the cheapest dealer by a long chalk.

Hmmm...for such a new bike I would be inclined to claim on the insurance (if it's fully comp) and get the bits replaced.

Bits do come up on eBay, but as you say it might take a while to complete your shopping list. The other thing is that, almost by definition, the panels on eBay have been taken of bikes that have been in scrapes themselves and are usually cosmetically challenged.

The other way around it is to buy the bits you can fit yourself (swapping a handlebar is easy enough) and find a paint shop that knows what they're doing with bikes - you'll be surprised what they can do with your gravel rashed panels

How badly damaged are the fairings? Is it just the one side? Is it worth repairing them?

I know whats its like when you think you're gonna keep the bike forever, but it invariably doesnt end up that way...something will come along to tempt you.

You might be able to pick up the necessary parts secondhand from either the lads/lasses on here, or eBay, or breakers etc, but its still gonna cost a fair bit.

If the damage is too much, I'd claim, but thats my personal opinion.

The bike is at P&H for a quote presently, i might take you up on the offer if they give me a heart attack, which i suspect they will :-(

Where abouts are you, and i guess your a mechanic / expert ??

am not either mate but have been about a bit and am in Woking.

If not doing on insurance, then just patch up what you have duffed up. Rally did this when he had a mishap off his 999 last year and it still has sctratched fairings though he did have to replace the tank as it kept leaking.
