998r with a bad case of the splutters......help!
Need some input here peeps.
took the 998 out yesterday and today, bike goes well except for this.
It really splutters when doing fast left handers.
straight line and right handers bike goes fine, then do a left and it's all splutters and power tails off, strange or what.
I had a duke mechanic take it out, he could'nt enlighten me either.
suggested booking it for a more indepth examination,£££££££££
So before it's wallet out time again, any body had similar probs with there bike or with other models.
I don't think it's a fuelling prob, or it would do it in other situation.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.
cheers
Robin

If it's not fuel (or fuel pump), it's ignition ... or the more modern nemesis, the computer ... or errant inputs to it from coolant temperature, thottle position, air pressure, air temperature, and crank position sensors.

The solution: wiggle stuff (a technical term.) Something electrical is probably loose and breaking contact, or moving during a left turn only and touching something. i.e. shorting out to an adjacent grounded item.

Think back. What have you (or your dealer) changed/touched recently?

a 998R should still be under warranty shouldnt it? Thought they only came out around mid 2002?

Reminds me a bit of the old Kwak KR1S, used to seize on long right handers!

I would start by checking all earth connections, then I would be wondering if the bike had a tilt switch.

I can answer this one, I Think. It is common for race KR1S`s to nip up while going round Gerrards at Mallory, theory is that due to the position of the fuel tap (on the left side of the tap, the fact that it is a diaphram type tap, ie there is no OFF position, works by the carbs sucking, and that the hose to the left carb is shorter than the hose to the right carb , Wait for it-----------Fuel starvation to the left cyinder, no 2 stroke oil getting in, it nips up

yep, right about warranty, but I have been into a duke dealer with the bike, they cannot seem to pinp oint where the problem is, and they say they have checked everything, and it's still doing it.
What goes on here then,
cheers

Red sps.

If you need to check out the CPU let me know. I have a standard 998r one to try if you think your one is on the blink.

JHP are official duke dealers (part of Ducati Coventry) so book it in there, if they cant work it out DUK will have to give you a new one!

Don't think they can do that. If the bikes faulty then they have to continue testing and checking for faulty parts. I would send it back in to the dealer and let rip at ducati uk at the same time.
