998R & 999R engines different?
Does anyone know if there is any differences between 02 (998R) model year engines and 03/04 (999R) motors??
I would be quite suprised if they are identical?

why is Chili is running a 999RS motor in a 998RS chassis?(998.5 as he calls it!)
if thats the case what is the benefit with the motor from the 999??
and doesn't these motors have to be homolgated??

The 998r engine id indeed a 999cc short stroke with ti rods the same as a 999r (03) engine. In Fact all the 999r (04) model has extra is some cosmetic changes, carbon cam belt covers, mag cam covers.

I think the biggest difference your talking about also relates to the situation emmett and Rutter were in last year with their choice of engines.
998cc v999cc whatever they were called.

Chillo, the RS motors are very different animals to what you get in a street bike. For starters, the newer the motor the more horsepower it makes. That is, every year the new motor that's put into the race bikes makes more horsepower than the one from the previous year. That's the reason Frankie uses the latest customer spec motor. He put it into the 998 because he likes the front end feel better.

Another interesting aspect is that this year's factory race motor shares no internal components with last year's motor. And all of the internal components are not found in street motors. Bore and stroke they may share, but that's where it ends.
