DU143 Ohlins-Fitting problems
Has anyone got a DU143 Ohlins rear shock fitted?
I've just fitted mine and the hydraulic preload adjuster part is touching the left hand end can pipework(just)
Is this normal? I have 50mm end cans on the bike, I know touching has got to be bad but what do you do?
Also noticed my front sprocket has a little end float type play on the shaft, fitted a new lock plate but it still does it, normal or naughty?

Will have to check my shock later, don't think its touching although it was close to the 54mm system, I think its fairly easy to repostion it. Was looking at Louigis at Castle Combe last Saturday and the preload adjuster looked as if it was at a different angle to mine.

The preload adjuster should rotate with the spring preload nuts. Those are the two large nuts at the top of the spring. It may well be that you have to adjust it to get the right angle.

Right, got it in, I have about 4mm clearance now, phew!
Nothings ever easy is it!
It only seems to have one adjuster ring on it, but I think what I might do is come and talk to you guys/inspect your machines at Donnington, just to be sure!

If it's the one I am thinking of, the second nut is covered by the collar of the hydraulic adjuster unit and you'd need to compress the spring to slide the adjuster unit down to expose the second spring. Best left to a workshop that has the tools. But if if clears everything, you should be alright.

It's a common problem. The preload adjuster should be at the same angle as the compression adjuster. As Felix says, you need to compress the spring to access the second lock ring, not DIY unless you have a proper spring compressor!!!

If you've only got about 4mm clearance with the bike just sitting there then you'll probably have a clearance problem - the adjuster swings in closer towards the pipes with suspension travel. Easiest way to sort out is to loosen all the exhaust mounting bolts off (especially the ones that hold the balance pipes to the frame) and pull the whole exhaust as far backwards as you can then tighten up again. Should give you ample clearance.
