I am thinking of replacing the front discs on my 748. It has had the front callipers upgraded to the four pad type. I want the original discs for my DD bike so I thought I may as well buy new ones for the 748. Any thoughts on what type would work best. I was thinking maybe some wavy ones but still undecided.
I had been looking at those. They seem to be a good option but it would be nice to know if they are any better than the standard ones. Anyone gone down the road with fully floating discs? and if so what sort of cost are they?
I'm running the Brembo "trackday" discs. Fully floating cast stainless jobbies. 5mm thick (over std 4.5mm) and a bit lighter to boot. With 4 pad calipers, braking is simply awesome. £147 a piece plus the VAT.
My choice would be to change to a ductile iron rotor having a higher coefficient of friction and therefore more stopping power, combined with a lighter weight rotor (that saves about one pound per rotor) having less unsprung weight and rotational inertia, giving better handling.
I knew it was too good to be true...my astonishing run of bad with my bike continues:
Got the discs mounted on the wheel a treat and just KNEW there was going to be a problem with the clearance between the bolt heads and the speedo drive - but not for the reason I expected.
The disc carrier is actually THICKER than the std Brembo that was fitted so, the bolt heads were even higher - since I wanted to use some dome headed bolts with a bigger allen key hole than normal. Worked around that by by fitting the older style bolts.
THEN - once mounted on the bike, there is hardly any clearance between the outer edge of the disc and the caliper on the LHS - but worse - on the RHS the outer disc surface is CONTACTING the inner body of the caliper!
The pistons are fully home already in prep for bleeding and the pads are only a little worn as they are only slightly below the level of the posts.
I've wrote to the seller / supplier to seek his this advice.

Hmmm, talked to quite a few club racers that won't use them because the warp too easily. It sounds like your experience is far better, skids. Is this a case of it works on some bikes and not others? A case of inappropriate pads?
