998S Mods

Well everyone, my 998s is sitting in my garage waiting for the nice weather without salt! The only mods to my 998s is to change the seat for a mono posto, carbon mirrors, Helle Bars and dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. I am thinking about a Power Commander but as you can see I have not changed the filters or exhaust at all. Would I see the benefits of it ? and would I be able to use a default map ?

Opinions please.

I doubt if you would get much improvement from running the default map but fitting a power commander and getting it setup on a Dyno should give some improvement and would also be there in the future if you decided to fit different pipes or filters.

Make sure you are getting the best from what you've got. Get the cams dialled in, injector balance TPS set up etc. Then maybe ditch the mesh on the air intake, leave the standard filters or go for Pipercross replacements. A set of open pipes then top it off with a power commander set up on a dyno. Setting up on a dyno costs a bit but makes sure you are getting the best from the power commander.

It won't cost a fortune, the exhaust is the dearest bit, all the mods are reversible if you want. You should end up with a bike that has great low and mid range with a little bit more at the top end.

I have 50mm Termi`s and JHP under tank filters that have now caused a backfire under, the tank, after a high speed run.

I am going to fit a power commander and have it set up on a dyno, once I can find one near where i live, so will let you know how I get on.

Regards

My 998S is going to Cornerspeed in early April it's having the 12,000 mile service, cams dialled in, fitting Pipercross filters (getting rid of ITG) & hardwiring a PC111usb & is being set up on the dyno. It's got 50/54 ti termi's - with 14/38 gearing so could be interesting...

So you might want to wait & see what the effects are - happy to report back mid April

I'm not expecting big power gains mainly improved fuelling/throttle response

Hi GLJ

My 998bip has S/R cams, 996R ECU, full 50mm system, so it's similar to an "S" as it stands.

It's going to LouigiMoto in Bristol next week for service and fettle, including:

Set squish
Gas flow heads
Skim heads for 12.8/1 CR
Custom mapping PC111USB

I'm getting dyno print-outs for before and after and will let you know the results.
