Hopefully thats me ready for Cadwell

well when I say me I mean the bike.
Its been a busy 24hrs
I wasn't happy with the brakes at Oulton so I've ditched the oem 996 mastercylinder in favour of a Brembo Radial that I pinched of my 996 complete with folding lever, plus a spare in case it doesn't work as it should, the lever that is. Not that I intend finding out but as Mallory proved you just never know.
Also uploaded a modified fuel map to the PC to try and allow for the temperature in a hot dyno room compared to the fresh air of Cadwell.

I've also removed the cambelt covers to gain access to the camshaft pulleys so that I could try a different setting and have left the covers off so its easy to reset to where the cam timing was.

while playing with the cam timing I had my mate Paul pop round on his 750SS for me to fit a new set of belts to it

and with all that done it was time to have a look at the 998R and see if I could figure out its starting issues and lack of a tickover, that was causing me a few problems at the dSC trackday.

After unbolting the tank and sitting it askew so that I could see the throttle bodies, I tried starting the bike and could see I was only getting spray from one injector to the vertical cylinder. I could also see the butterfly for the vert cyl throttle body was futher closed than the one for the Horizontal cylinder and at wide open throttle the vert butterfly didn't open as far.

It was obvious from the unbroken yellow paint that the linkage hadn't been adjusted in recent times, so I decide to give it a tweek so as to open the butterfly for the vert cyl a small amount.
Before refitting the airbox and tank i decided to take a voltage reading from the TPS, at closed throttle I measured 405mV and WOT 4.66V.
Once the bike was back together it not only started a lot easier but it also ticked over.
So the next job on the 998R is to set up the throttle bodies, TPS etc and then decide on which ECU to use and maybe think about fitting a Power commander, unless I decide to go with the FIM ECU and get Pro-Twins to reprogram it

Do you know if a dyno will be at Cadwell Kev ?

I'm only entered for the Sunday but should arrive just after lunch on Saturday complete with weighing equipment, so we will be able to see how heavy or light your bike is Steve
