coils & modules ??

Snetterton is looming. In the past has costed me an engine rebuild each time

I've been there so I am trying to prevent gremlins and I stumbled again on the issue of coils and ignition modules.
Coils seem quite crude structures well sealed and resistant to vibration abuse and the wiring including HT seems to me more important.
Some suggest upgrade for better spark such as
http://ca-cycleworks.com/products/electrical/2vcoils
seems necessary. I am not fully convinced.
Ignition modules may be more cause for concern after connections and leads and maybe it would be worthed to have a look to an upgrade such ignitech or DP al9000 as it seems the Kokusan were probably a downgrade from Marelli.

At present I quire keen to check all connections and replace leads.
Please, share your experience on coils and modules and help me decide.
Comments from the gurus would be appreciated.

The standard modules are very prone to spiking causing them to blow.

Causes can be poor battery connections, crude ON/OFF switches and connecting Jump Start packs.

Ignitech is a great replacement but at a price, although some people seem to charge almost the same for a secondhand set of standard igniters.
yet it is possible to get a pair of secondhand igniters for less than half the price of a new Ignitech unit making buying a set as spares an option

Thanx Kev,
I think I will focus on all connections and leads including HT leads.
I also wrote an email to ignitech to find out more about the unit.

Alex its a great unit as not only is it more robust, but along with the ability to alter the Ignition timing it also has outputs for a Rev Counter and a programmable Shift light and is relatively easy to setup.

On my 583 I used a German system from Silent Hektik. Not cheap tho'.

With a bit of work I managed to mount the bigger Dyna coils into the same position as the OEM on my 900ss. I seem to remember the bike starting a little easier but harder to quantify any performance gains.
