749R, 1st year service Due, Any Tips ? I am taking my 749R for its 1st year service on monday, I have only done about 1400 miles since the first service and the dealer has said that it should not need that much doing to it, so hopefully the bill will not give me a heart attack !! Does anyone know of any problems that are known on this bike that I can report to the dealer for them to check out. I have had no major problems apart from the bike cutting out when left to idle or when cold, the brakes feeling a bit weak considering they are radial, the standard slipper clutch being crap ( Now replaced at my own cost ! ) and the carbon fairing seeming to chip easily. I am going to get them to double check the chain after reading others unfortunate problems and also the sump plug ( Is there a lower profile sump plug out now ? ) If there is anything else that any other owners can think of please let me know. Thanks |
Rob a bank to pay for it:sing: |
Take it to a dealer that you can trust, if possible hang around and watch them work on it. If your happy with what you see and the bill is reasonable you can't ask for much more. As for specifc problems to watch out for ... sorry can't help. |
Where are you taking her? If its a top Ducati outfit, they should look after you. Tim |
Aren't you getting the service a bit early? By my conversion you've got another 3000 or so miles yet, I live in metric land and not quite sure what you mean by "1st service". I've done over 5000klms which means another 5000 before service. I was interested that you said the brakes are weak, mine are sensational and yes the clutch has suffered a minor glitch at times ie. not re-engaging when changing down but I suspect this might be to do with its use at lower engine speeds, I don't race. |

Thats correct KeefyB my bike has only done 2000 miles but is now one year old. I will be taking it to my local Ducati main dealer ( M&S Newcastle ) they have always looked after me in the past and they have said that as my bike has only done about 1400 miles since the first (600 miles) service they will only do what they think needs doing. Their top Ducati technician always works on my bike they will not let a 16 year old touch it so I am relatively confident that they will not 'rip' me off. |
I was looking at 749Rs and was told that the belts etc have to be changed every year and that the total cost would be around the grand mark!! This was the main reason I stoped looking at them. Hopefully for you I've been misinformed. |
Get them to check the coils, common problem and were upgraded on later bikes, I doubt they'll replace them until they fail though. |
I've always had belts changed every year regardless of mileage but I must say I'm beginning to wonder if this is still necessary, I would have thought that the current Ducati kevlar belts would last a couple of years ? |
