I think you might find that Ducati UK's stance will differ somewhat. My understanding is that they tend to pay for the parts only on out of warranty bikes but only if the bike has been fully dealer...

When you try and start it do you give it any throttle? Fast idle button? My guess would be that one of the FI sensors in the nose of the bike has been damaged and is messing up the ECU.
