Sounds like a basic wiring/connector fault...

Sounds like a basic wiring/connector fault contact/no contact etc. You can link out the side stand switch with a short piece of wire to eliminate it. :D

I had (and still is) the same shock on my old bike. I made a new mounting eye so I could get even more ride height than normal, and it worked. :)

If you have an adjustable clutch lever make sure you have enough free play. Even the coffin shaped master cylinders have room for adjustment in the lever. :)
