I quite agree Dave, all that plumbing kind of spoils it a bit.

Brutal power being the 20 odd horse power more than i've already got? I dont think so.

£600.00 service holy moses, £600.00 that is just rediculas, thanks lads for the knowledge. Just shows you learn somthing new everyday. I would be certainly be doing my homework on 4 valve Duke's. I would have thought more basic engine = cheaper running costs.

sixxx hundreddddd pounddddddds, crikey!

Misconstrued I think mate. All Dukes have got at least four valves. Rockhopper's talking about valves per cylinder, so his has got 8 valves and consumes more rockers than Lemmy does coke by the sound of it

Sorry mate, yes Jools is right. The 996,916,748 etc motors all tend to be called four valve motors even though they have eight valves in total! The two valver like the ST2, 900SS, are much cheaper to run in terms of servicing but make less power. For example a 944cc 2 valve motor makes about 75hp while a 916cc four valve motor makes 107hp.

My last service needed three new rockers at £85 each hence the desire not to repeat that exercise in 6000 miles time!!

If its got Ducati on the tank, you cant start pinching pennies.

Walk or catch the bus if you wanna save money on servicing.

No offence, but....

Ducati or no ducati,as much as i love the brand, a six grand motorcycle which needs a £600.00 service is OTT. £600 is a lot of money, surely there is something wrong with these motors. I thrashed my 97' 916 from new and only changed the oil twice, + cam belts at 5k. Though the kid who i sold it to (at 7k) only managed to thrash it for two weeks(after i had it 6 years), and it snapped a con rod, how unlucky!

I have no problem with servicing costs Vman. I just object to paying money out on "consumables" that shouldn't be consumed. Rockers should last the life of the bike and if you think that kind of expense is acceptable then your a bigger mug than i thought you were.
