Windows help

A work mate wants to install windows XP home on his sons laptop which already has professional (i assume windows xp pro) installed. Is it going to be easy/possible? Aparently you cant play as many games with pro as you can home.

I also note that when i submit posts on here i get a page cannot be displayed message but the post is still posted!

Just noticed that it only happens when i reply to a thread.

I get the same "cannot be posted without headers" or similar, but it still posts.

rero to home.
I'm sure you can install the games by running setup again and choosing them to install.

I think he meant that actual games wont play on XP Pro where they will on XP home.

oops.
Think someone with knowledge will be along shortly - JPM? perchance being a major league gamer?

However,........so long as it installs he should be able to spec how the game runs by using the advance option on the icon. Be able to say it runs on win home?

No difference, in terms of playing games, between the two.

Right. I'm wondering if rather than meaning windows XP Pro he was meaning a pro version of windows like NT4 perhaps?

XP Home is essentially the same as XP Pro with a few restriction in that you cannot join a domain, no offline folders, can't remote desktop out etc. but for playing games I can't see how there would be any difference at all?

It wouldn't be NT, it would be Windows 98.

Most applications should be compatible between 98 and XP unless they're really old, like more than 3 years or more.

Okay guys, got a bit more info! His son bought some of those budget games, 3 for £10 so its old ish stuff. They wont run and the games support poeple told him they will only run under XP Home and not XP pro.
