Filler cap removal

I am in trying to remove the filler cap to paint the tank on my 600ss DD bike. I have removed the 8 alan head grub screws in the alloy plate at which point I thought it would come out but no I have tried to twist ( both ways) and pull but no joy. Do I need to do something else to get it out.

Remove the grub screws completely and spray some wd40 in the holes. Use a hammer shaft in the filler and "work" it to help the wd move around the o-ring.
don't lever too hard else you'll dent the tank
