Seat unit + seat stuff

My seat has holes in it and the surrounding panels are kinda tatty too, so I decided id like to start getting the bits together to eventually fit a single seat unit ala ricambi weiss.

I would have been interested to use one of the SL type seat units, except the selection of seats to go on them seems *very* limited.

Because of the lack of seat options i decided to go for the other style (748/9**) and picked up a 9**/748 seat from fleabay.
(I'm still yet to get the seat unit)

However since i bought it i noticed that people are selling them as either monoposto or biposto - Mine wasnt labelled.

Is there a major difference between them, and how can i tell what i have got?

I dont want to order a seat unit if the seat i have for it wont fit.

Thanks again

Cy

I'm doing much the same thing myself but have a limited run 916 style item that is designed to fit the rear of an SS machine.

Monoposto - single seat, rider only
Biposto - two seat, rider + pillion - but if the pillion padding on my seat unit it anything to go by a pillion will need to have some built in padding!

Bear in mind you will probably loose the grab handle, not a big deal but I found it handy for moving the bike occassionally and you might loose easy access to the toolkit area under the pillion seat.

Sargeant make an SL type seat pad from memory but really yes you are right, replacement seat do seem to be fewer.

I have a reasonable collection building:
Standard Seat x2
Corbin Streetfighter
Custom 916 unit

Good luck !

Its nice to know im not alone haha

i know there was some german fella who was selling the 2 piece SL type seats, but he hasnt had any for sale for a while now.

Im not fussed about taking anyone on the back. thats another small reason i want to go single seat. so no one can ask to go on the back!

Will a biposto seat fit the same as a monoposto? ie; are they the same size?

Mono/ Biposto - you'd think the base was the same but, I dont honestly know enough about them.

Someone mentioned louigimoto (I think) did a CARBON SL unti but how deep are your pockets !!!

Having said that - I dont think its a cheap mod anyway - as if ANYTHING on a Ducati is.

I had a FGlass rear seat unit - with a removable rear hump! But there were NO fittings at all and it was in bare primer - I sold it to a guy in the USA.

Have a word with twpd - he got a recambi-weiss unit for a 800ss but, I dont think he was too pleased with it.

These guys seems to be numero uno as far as I know:
