Another update:

"Just heard back from Datatag -- they have no record of either the
Registration Mark or the DAT0 number. It would appear some dealers are
installing DataTags without registering the vehicle in the central
database."

Worth making sure that if your dealer fits a DataTag, or if you buy a bike with a kit fitted, that it's registered with the central database!

I guess so, but what if they come fitted by the dealer? Are they not supposed to register them? Never bought one with it fitted, so just offered the warning to make sure people remember!

Well, it would appear not to be stolen either time. A good member of the public took it in and informed the authorities, who have told the keeper.
