police ALLEGEDLY condoning speeding ???

heard this from someone; i have no reason to doubt them but cannot verify or confirm the accuracy of the alleged incident. anyone heard or know of this kind of thing.?

the sunday after the U2 concert at twickenham there was something called a supercar weekend where aprox 60 cars met at high wycombe. they were apparently given a police escort to somewhere on the m40 and were told that for the next 2 junctions there would be no police around. apparently a mercedes slr marclaren? got up to 210mph.

i must stress this is all without confirmation and could be a load of old tosh but just wondered if anyone else had heard of this kind of thing??

Nope I think you're right.
There was definitely a U2 concert at Twickenham.

Some time back an accident had sealed off the M1 south at the M25 junction. Bikes (including myself) had naturally filtered their way to the front of the queue and were moved forward right to the front to spread out accross the motorway in front of all the cars by the police officers (clearly a safety thing.) When the accident had been cleared an officer made all the bikes switch off their engines and shouted (and I quote) "Right lads, imagine you are at Cadwell Park with a clear track in front of you......but be safe." You can imagine what happened when he released us and they did not bat an eyelid. Clear road all the way to J5 (for those of us at the front) because they had closed J6 southbound entry, again presumably for safety.

Dickie, give yourself a slap. Can you imagine someone killing themselves or others and then saying, " That Copper said it would be OK!" For that reason alone i would say it was tosh................
Besides why miss out on the opportunity to be the king of smug giving a geezer in his McClaren/ Ferrari thing a ticket.........

Sort of reminds me of the original 'Run to the Sun' which I lead in 2001 down to the Misano Superbike race. There we were all 14 of us batting down the Italian A1 south of Milan when we ran into some serious congestion. Well we 'filtered' to the front as you do-this actually involved riding for about 5 miles down the hard shoulder at about 90........
When we got to the front there were police everywhere, 2 helicopters, and what seemed like a very small shunt involving a fiat and a lorry-I thought we were in for some serious trouble but they just waved us through-onto 20 miles of completely empty motorway...................enough said.

Somehow I just can't imagine anybody saying anything at all if they'd just killed themselves
