MP3 Player
Does anyone use an MP3 player while they are riding? The Mrs is threatening to buy me one for Xmas and reckons I could easily listen to it whilst riding but Im not so sure sounds a bit dodgy to me, but hey what what do I know?

So I thought I know I'll ask on the DSC website and see if anyone has any advice, stories, whatever. Seems to me a distraction like being on the phone whilst DRIVING...

Cheers
Paul

Bad move Paul.

It's going to be hard to hear over the pipes and if you do have an "incident" it'll count against you in court/insurance (two wires hanging out the bottom of your helmet are not exactly inconspicuous)

And yeah why drown out that lovely sound, must be taking leave of my senses

I've tried on longer rides, like through France, but the headphones are a pain in the arse (I think I might have put them in wrong...) and you lose a lot of the sound to external noise anyway.

You might be better off with some inner-helmet speakers, but it will still be fiddly to change the track, change the volume (too loud when stopped, not loud enough when moving) and it will be a distraction.

Anyway, what's wrong with singing your own tunes like the rest of us?

I used to commute 30 miles (Solihull Stratford) a day I used a Arai Astro/J a cotten balaclava, shure e2c phones and an Iriver Ihp140 and found that work for me but that all said I rode a Bandit so the 'standard' engine music wasnt all that good! I never had a problem with concentration I always took the opinion of people listen music in cars and its not illegal so never thought it to be a problem.

Can't see it being illegal or considered dangerous by insurers. Autocom actively market the ability to use MP3 / SatNav etc with their systems. I've also seen several bluetooth solutions recently that support phones too.

Personally I've never got on with cheap earbuds whilst riding, but now I've got a set of etymotics I'll possibly try again on longer rides (when it's warmer), especially with their noise elimination benefits.

Other than comfort of the earbuds, noise cancellation, bass reproduction and volume restriction would be where I'd be most concerned.

No less distracting than Rage against the Machine full chat in the car....
