Cool Fame at last

I went to Peterborough to get a new passport today, and buzzed up there in Mrs Jools Smart Car (cos it had plenty of petrol in it) On the way back, just as I was about 300 meters from the Black Cat roundabout a big orange sign started flashing up ahead.

"A421 Great Barford by-pass now open" it said, and so it was !!!

There were a couple of artics in front of me in the right hand lane and they turned on first, but of course as soon as I got on the roundabout I pulled into the right hand lane and overtook the artics as I got onto the new by-pass

Then I noticed something strange...

As I turned onto the bypass there was a crowd of posh people standing at the side of the road clapping and waving at me, then at regular intervals there were little groups of contractors in their yellow jackets cheering as I went past.

Then I noticed something else very strange....There was absolutely nobody in front of me

As I approached the first bridge it was lined with people waving and clapping, and so it went at every bridge, of course I started hamming it up with thumbs up signs and 'royal waves', then I noticed there was even a TV crew on one of the bridges filming little ol' me beetling along in a black Smart.

Could it be that I was the very first member of the public to drive along that road ???

Anyway, all you guys in 'Look East' land, if you see me on the news, now I've opened my first bypass, remember I'm available for fete and supermarket openings, after dinner speeches, and conferences at a reasonable fee

Isn't that the stretch where they've introduced a 20mph limit with no visible limit signs ? Maybe you were the first person to get 50 points on your licence in a 5 mile stretch of road.
