How fast does it really go?!
Hi there,
had my 600ss out the other day which I've had a bit of a fiddle with; Stage 2 dyna jet plus filter, dyna coils, ickle flywheel, Marvic wheels and a few other bits an bobs.
Anyway, I guess the wind must've been behind me when I gave it some stick along the bypass as in top it pulled all the way up to 10K and an indicated speed of 210km/h which is somewhere around 130mph which seems a bit ambitious for a 600ss. I've got standard sprockets on there as well so am I just really lucky or is the speedo way out?
Cheers!
A.

Probably not far off the mark. A std one on a good day might make 120. So a lightly tweaked one about 125?

I've had four Ducatis in the last 15yrs, and every one has had an optimistic speedo. They're reading about 10% over the top.

From what I remember, 15/41 (standard gearing for a 600SS) is 139mph at 9,500rpm in top.

That can't be right. Even with the standard, extremely tall, gearing on my 750SS I'm lucky to see an indicated 140mph flat out downhill with the wind behind me. By then its just touching the redline too.

I normally run with 1 less tooth on the front so it now tops out about 130mph at the redline but it can actually get there without a big hill.

Here is what I I have based on reving a 583 to 9000rpm in top and a 620 to 10000rpm in top

Standard gearing
600SS = 121mph
M600 = 115mph
620Sie =136mph
M620 = 130mph

The standard speedo is definitely flattering on an SS.
My 900 used to see 150+ on a regular basis, with dynojet K&N and cans.
The previous owner had done some work for MCN and had recorded a run through the lights at bruntingthorpe one day at 135.

So up to 10% of generosity backs up twpd's comments.

Must check my 916 against my mate's ex-plod Pan to see how it measures up.
