It's not just limited to England shirts - did you know that St George's Day, held for the Patron Saint of England, is not a "special occasion" which merits a pub extension, but Chinese New Year is?

no interest in extreme politics but do think actions like these (from the school) do cause massive problems and fuel extremist groups. how come we are the only nation unable to show pride in our identity and flag. if my kid was at the school i would send them in with their shirt on with pride.

Well said Antony & DD,
I am not an extremist either, but why is it so wrong to be PROUD to be ENGLISH ???

In this country they celebrate Constitution day... it's a public holiday, they lived under a dictatorship for years and have now reached 25 years of democracy.

I think England is run by anally retentive navel gazing P.C. Dictators, who are these people??...and more to the point why are you (collectively) paying their wages???? right that's me sorted , time for a siesta!!!

Mmmm...As a school teacher i think that it is a real shame that we are not doing the same sort of thing as the Americans and teaching our children to pledge alliegance to Queen and Country...It's about citizenship.
We have a very diverse society here I'm proof of that...I do resent not being allowed to display the fact that we are extremely proud of this country.
I think in our attempt to be a diverse culture and welcome new traditions and customs some are becoming forgetful that to disagree with the next man is what makes our country diverse. The BNP have a right to there opinions AND they are not all a bunch of rascist fanatics that we stereotype them to be ( well some of them at any rate )
Just a bunch of geezers that have an interest in protecting their customs, rights and traditions.

I think politics is a bad subject to be discussing on here but, since someone started it.....
Why the hell shouldn't we be proud to be English? During the Golden Jubilie the local taxi drivers were told to remove the cross of St George form the taxis... most of them are of Asian origin, and they want to celebrate being British... what has it all come to?
We celebrate St Patricks day and we're not even Irish (as a country - I know some of you are)... I used to live near an 'Irish' pub and they even closed the road off one year to have Irish folk dancers in the road...
Is it any wonder that normal everyday people turn to extremist views when the powers that be come up with such ridiculous ideas? Rant over.

There's only one way to sort this. Sod what the authorities say and wave your flag or wear your shirt with pride. I'll be doing it and I know a few of my mates will too.

Nah, he'll be fine. He'll just chuck on his St. Georges Cross thong and prance down the high street
