started to watch the programme about ewan macgregor and his mate going from london to NY on bikes last night on sky1. dont think its repeat if it is i missed it first time around.

thought it was really good, although its not sports bikes, its so something i would want to do. travelling around on a couple of bmw GS 's. if i ever get a break from work of 3 months or more i would definitely try to go on a trip like this albeit not quite as adventurous. if you did miss it i would thouroughly recommend you have a look. i think the first programme is repeated again sometime, wednesday maybe?

yeah i knew you'd be along soon. apologies, very bad form on my behalf. but put it on just as i was about to leave and didnt want to miss any. im a little bit behind the curve on sky+ so couldnt record it. i'll order it now to avoid any further clashes.

Myself and Lily watched this also, looks like an amazing adventure, the amount of money, time, and planning to put something like that together, I'd love to have a go myself, but I doubt I could raise enough sponsorship, profile of the adventure high enough to fund it.

there was a peice in the ST weekend before last about this... kinda helps when youve a film crew and researchers hanging around too... and of course if one call to BMW and a namecheck like Ewan McGregor can sort everything out!!!

And of course our very own BDG does Lands End to John O Groats on his Multistrada...just as a prelude to the Sahara!

That seems to be a little less adventurous than round the world, but not much less, especially when you do it without being financed by TV rights and a book deal.

It also shows that you don't need a GS to do that sort of stuff, and what a versatile bike the old Multistrada is

We had much the same discusion. We agreed that the multi would be a top bike for this sort of thing

Wouldn't mind doing something like this, but then having seen the preview of some of the things they encountered it looks pretty scary!

really dont think the multi would be up to it. may be ok for english roads in winter but i think off road you can forget it dont think anything would come close to the beemers in terms of all terrian conditions and load carrying capacity/tank range/ duabilty etc. i maybe wrong but i dont think you'll see many in the paris dakar
