| Why can’t hospital ceilings be more interesting?
Well, it had to happen sooner or later; I’ve just taken my first spill. Pretty standard stuff from what I understand; ‘sorry, didn’t see you!’
I got side swiped by a car turning right from a minor road, knocked me off and out, may have written off the bike and put me in hospital for a very boring evening.
And as I was lying on a stretcher, all trussed up like some sort of gimp, counting the ceiling tiles, and going through it all in slow motion, I realised that there was nothing I could have done to prevent it (other than not ride that day).
So it’s just one of those things that bikers should expect.
One lesson to be learnt by all from this; Always wear your kit. I’ve limped away from this with no more than severe bruising and a little road rash because my leathers took it all, whereas the day before I’d done exactly the same trip but without the full kit.

One other thing I will say is that the emergency services and people who stopped were brilliant. The police even took my bike home for me, rather than leave it at the side of the road.  |
