changing chains

when changing a chain, do you have to take the slave cyclinder off?

I got sent a closed loop chain as part of the final drive kit from Duc. I can't get the front sprocket and chain off in one piece, the slave cyclinder over hangs by a few mm and blocks it so I think I'll have the same trouble getting the new one on. So is there a trick to it? is it possible to remove the chain without breaking it?

So 2 questions;
1. do I need to remove the slave cyclinder?
2. if so, is there anything I should know about it (ie. will it leak fluid everywhere if I do?)

cheers
Jon
