All stock 748's have a 14-tooth front sprocket, which is the smallest practical size. In the US, a stock 748 comes stock with 38-tooth rear sprocket that is too high, most will agree.

Probably the most popular gearing change for this model - for street use - is to a 41-tooth rear. Talon, Renthal or AFAM sprockets are popular.

A 38-tooth rear uses a 94-link chain. If you change to a 40, 41, or 42 rear sprocket, you will need a 96-link chain.

748's use a 520 chain size supplied by DID. Tsubaki chains are well made - as are AFAM Regina, DID, RK, and EK chains. AFAM chains are made by DID.

Ducati uses a eccentric to adjust the chain tension so remember to measure your rear ride height BEFORE you change your rear sprocket so you can later raise your ride height back to where it was after the change.
