i bought one off those 4 post slipper buchi clutchs off ebay. i bought a smaller main nut, when i have it ready to torgue only 3 quaters off the nut are on the shaft i left off the spacer which goes on behind the plate holder and the one that fits behind main nut. should i machine it so all the nut is on. or machine nut. HELP. THANKS to anybody who can help pud
The spacer that goes behind the standard clutch up against the bearing in the crankcases is thicker than the one you use with most slipper clutches that I know of.
You should have had a top hat spacer supplied with the clutch. If you don't fit the correct one, this could cause the spider spring to break. Also removing the spacers, could cause the clutch to not disengage
thanks for help. ave sussed it .the shaft, with all spacers. on only. has 6mm thread. am going turn org nut. and recess it so it fits like org..... centre. not disturbing the sprag washer. .
The nut used by Nelly (as on mine and TP's) is the nut from the alternator shaft. This info was passed onto Nick who's selling the clutches and I believe he's now supplying that nut with the clutch, but I may be wrong.
It's an M20x1 thread, and about 8mm thick IIRC correctly.
The top hat spacer I got with the slipper was shallower than the original, but needed shimming out slightly (1mm or so) so everything cleared the clutch basket.
As Skid's and Jon have suggested, check the spacer first. If it's the right one, I'd be inclined to turn down the spacer before the nut. Just make sure there's enough clearance behind the basket when the spacer's turned down.
