Public Liability Ins - Advice please

Been informed I may need PLI to attend race circuits as a snapper in 2005 (just in case one of my camera lenses leaps from it's bag and takes out 50 spectators no doubt )

Does anyone have any advice as to:

a) how I go about getting this

b) who I would/could approach (in terms of insurers)

c) how much it's likely to rob.....sorry cost me.

Guido

i have just sorted this minefield out over the last few months!

fact 1
it is not a legal requirment, unlike Employers liability
(WHICH IS)

secondly you need it if you are not a limited co!

The reason is if you are to be acused of being negligent

you could be sued , and loose your house etc etc

if you are limited different rules apply1

now the clever bit! your premium will be in-line with the category you ask to be in !

ie my holiday trips were put in (travel agents) cost over £13000 public liability for 5.000.000 cover

noew i'm in (events organiser) £976.00 for 2.000.000 cover

make sure you dont get ripped off !!!!! do your homework

hope this helps mate ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mav

Whoa,

Thank Johnda, Dibs and Mav, but bluddy hell.

£976.00......that's me out of business already then.....Would need to take pictures nearly all my life at the current rate to even get close to a ROI on £976.00

I don't have employees or clients who could sue me......I guess it's needed in case my actions by the track cause injury to others which really means the riders....(e.g. I step over a barrier onto the track and take out an unsuspecting rider etc).

Do all insurers offer PLI or do you have to go to specialist firms, and also do you contact the firms direct or do brokers offer it?

Sorry for all the Q's but's it's something I know nothing about.

Guido, I'll do some chasing for you tomorrow - as I have PLI too, but for my equestian interests. (teaching, but attending events with clients too)
I also have automatic cover for riding horses myself, by being a member of a recognised society (BHS)

Costs me £57.00 pa, for £5mil cover, for my instructors cover.

Will ask my broker tomorrow, where best to start - and also a mate who 'snaps' :P professionally for international events (horses again!)

Guido, I was getting quote's of £1,300 for PL & PI cover an that was only with a limit of 500k for providing estimating & quantity surveying services for Builders, put a stop to my plans as well

As photography carries fewer risks id of thought you could a lot cheaper that the £900
