The TL is boss, had one for a few years and it successfully introduced to me to the twin engine and subsequent ducati ownership.

Micron cans made it sound awesome, in fact, I still have them if you want a pair for a couple of quid to get you going.

Dont take it for granted and you will enjoy a super motorcycle that still looks cool today. Only went down once and that was a lowside on cold tyres, dont believe everything you read!

I had one mate.

When they first came out. Mine had the usual race cans and extras. I think it was an awsome bike. I used to read MCN ****ging it off every other week and thought I used to easliy blast blades and the like of the time.

I dropped the forks through the yokes to quicken the steering up and took that blasted damper off. The handling around town was vastly improved. The front end felt better too. But I always liked a bike that had a skittish front end to it when really going for it.

Mind you, I never got that rear end sorted out. It was ok though!!

I suppose for a real world bike it was ok. Off course it might loose out on a race track but then it was never a race bike. Well the S model wasnt anyhow.

I say get one if its in good nick and the price is right. Its a mega bike and that engine!!!!

I still think of grafting one into my 748 frame. Only in the interests of tinkering you understand!!devil:

another company wouldn't insure me because of my age.gotta be 24 lol.

813 aint bad for my first quote tho.i think i can get it down to 500 TPO.

Hello,

On the subject of TL1000 is there such a bike as a TL1000F?
I know its not the race bike such as the "S" the reg is Y yrs 2000.
I am trying to lacate hugger/belly pan, but was advised that a hugger would cause problems with rear shock as stated by Jools.

" Dodgy rear shock wasn't it? Some sort of nvel radial shock design to maximise space. The placement of the shock was tucked in some place where it didn't get any cooling"

any info would be most helpful

The rear shock mounting point on the "s" can crack due to the damping being a bit too heavy.
When the shock heats up it loses it's damping capability so the back end becomes a pogo.
Some people change the rear rotery damper for a more conventional type but that'll cost you around £4-500 if you don't ride hard it may never be a problem but pillions do cause the pogo effect after a while on bumpy roads.
I also hear negative things about the "r" but it was designed to race and therefore it's a bit twitchy on the road, i'm selling mine cos "it scares the **** out of me" and the 916 feels like a pussycat.

friend of a friend died on TL1000, experienced rider just lost it on the twisty's. Great deep zorst note though, remember the WSBK bikes, those were the days; deep noise of the TL's and screams/pops/bangs and flames from the ZX7R's. Wasn't Goeburt on TL1000 engined Bimota and that threw him over the bars!

916 insurance is not that bad, - can be same group/price as a 748. To be honest I would start the big vee twin experience on a SS, a 900SS carb or injection is a hell of a bike, learn to ride it right and not difficult to out ride lesser riders on R1's etc. - Oh and shell suit paint jobs have no place on motorbikes get a Duc, you know you owe it to us old giffers Ed!
