I have just bought a 996sps which has a hand stamped frame number.I did HPI,DVLA and mileage registration checks. All numbers matched, V5 and HPI check came back clear.Spoke to Dave Robinson at Wandsworth, who told me frame stamping is quite "legite" It just means that the frame has been replaced since the factory fitted one.He has a set of stamps and has stamped frames in the past. The question you need to ask is why?If the frame is cosher and straight, is there a problem? I dont think so,it just causes us to think the worst due to some of our scumbag society who choose to "ring " bikes and rip the hard working sector of our community off.I spent many a restless night deciding whether to buy this bike or not,but if you have done all your homework, and it all checks out, then ride and enjoy.
The only spooky thing is, my bike originally came from Coventry Ducati also!! Have we opened a can of worms???
