I've read this with interest as I about to do the same on my 999, but have a couple of questions.
I took a peak at the current pressure plate BEFORE reading this thread but can't say I noticed the 4mm bolts you refer to. I was standing on the other side of the bike and leaning over the saddle though.
The big question is how easy is it to fit the stainless springs?
Do you require any special tools or knowledge?
