Novice needing help

Good day folks, I have recently bought a very clean 600ss Fully Faired it is my first motorbike and I am very happy with it, having done some work on it myself (oil & clutch change) I had the belt service done and all was well.... until last sunday when I got side swiped on a roundabout. Not my fault and witnesses to prove it, but I'm ok, all my protective gear is trashed ( thankfully it done it's job) so suffering bruises and a broken heart I need to get positive and back on it. The insurance company will probably write it off Cos it's an old bike 1995, but with only 5500 miles on it I want to put it back on the road. basically it slid down it's left side once I had been thrown off so I need to source some used bits So i'm kindly asking if anyone reading this has any ss wheels, farings, left indicators and mirror, gear lever LH seat faring LH controls and grip and a fuel tank. Or even if you could recommend a good bike salvage yard in the SE or Hertfordshire area please reply and hopefully I'll get her back on the road to meet up with you fellow Duc owners. thanks in advance Gareth.

Ebay is your friend.

However from the list of parts you need you should seriously consider whether you want to ride the bike again. A crashed bike, especially one as apparently damaged as yours, will never be the same again, low mileage or not.

600SS's aren't that expensive and if you really wanted one rather than a larger engine SS you shouldn't have too much problem finding one....

Glad you're ok mate.
Lets hope you get a good offer from his insurance. Might be worth getting a bike specialist solicitor on it though. In my experience they will muck you around, even though it was clearly someone else's fault.

I think I would consider a new bike, old SS's can be had pretty cheap. If you do want to stick with your 600 it might be worth getting another whole bike. Would be almost as cheap as buying the parts separately and you can sell the parts you don't want to keep.

Hi Gareth,

Glad to hear you're ok and it was just the bike and your gear that got trashed. It sounds like it'll be more expensive to repair (even with cheap prices from DSC bods) than to buy a new one. I'd hammer the insurance company to stump up for one in equivalent condition, and then make them an offer on your bike as a Cat C/D. You could then get a very tasty 900/750 and make the 600 a rough'n'ready track bike

Cheers,

ali
