996sps, approx cost of getting it race tuned.

question to all you 916 & 996sps bods out there, or anyone else clued up in this area.
Considering using a 916sps or 996sps as a tempory donor engine for the T8 whilst I wait for the original lump to be rebuilt to original spec. the donor engine could be sold later or used in another project should the need arise.
what sort of cost would be involved in having either engine and it's managment unit tuned up to a reasonable race spec.
What sort of increase would I get over standard sps setup.
would it be reliable for road and track use .

any help gratefully recieved.

How much have you got?

I reckon a call to JHP, Sigma or AJR is your best bet, to discuss options.

Did some calculations late last night, about 3k, tops.
I do allready have an sps donor engine , so cost will be for tune up etc, not the the engine lump aswell.
Will I get a reasonable upgrade at this sort of money tim.

cheers

Sounds about right - £1K for labour, £2K for parts.

Why bother with the race tune? Just get the motor you have "fit" and installed then enjoy the T8. Much easier to sell a standard engine afterwards I would have thought???

yeh, was thinking of doing that, but on reflection a tuned 996sps lump may have better uses for a future project than a standard unit, once it's done, it's done.
the sps lump needs a overhaul anyway before it can be used, and will still be a quicker job than rebuilding the T8 lump, which is going to take some time at the present rate.

Are you going to use a set of ST4S crankcases? The SPS cases are not bored to take the 888 swingarm pivot bearings.

I have been thinking about putting an SPS engine in my SP3 and keeping the original engine safe from track days. I also prefer the extra mid range torque of the SPS, and the top end as well!

All the best,
Mike
