There is another stripper that dries to moreof a film so you can peel it off, and hence get a bit more out of the grain. It still takes as much time as the other methods, but its worth trying now you've got the worst off.

The other more messy way is to wash the stripper off ... easy with a door

And ... what are you going to do once it's stripped ?
If you are going to use lacquer with a bit of colour ... try a test piece - it might look ok !
