Trouble is that they've already fitted a new ECU and, as you know, once it's coded... hmmm... how did they code it without the red key?

they can by pass the security system by running the engine from their PC/data logger/type thing they have. Had that done on mine recently when the ecu locked up.

So they dont have to code it. How do they know it was not just a dodgy contact somewhere? That is like your phone only being able to receive calls but not make the because of the sim card. Is that likely electronics experts? Surely if an ecu dies it dies completely

My ECU and clocks were replaced under warranty, OK the bike was under a year old but they did replace.

The dealer, who will remain nameless, did not want to carry the work out under warranty because the bike had been stripped and re-built. I contacted Ducati direct and they authorised the work under warranty straight away.

Give them a call, you've nothing to loose.

Peter at Protwins explained the coding business to me. If you fit a new ECU it doesn't need to be coded and works fine. If you put the red key into the ignition it is at that point the ECU becomes permanently coded to the bike and cannot be used on another.

The bike is still with them but at least Ducati UK are looking into it. Who knows. I =may= get it back before the end of the year
