Hartside accident

Anyone else up at Hartside cafe today? I arrived in the early afternoon, to find police blocking the road. I, and a dozen or so other bikers, were pulled over to one side to allow the Air Ambulance to lift an injured party from the roadside. (This was on practically the final bend before the cafe - Alston side).

Talk in the cafe was of a biker (a girl) who'd left the road and ended up in the grass. However, I've just heard on the local news of a head-on collision between two bikes in the same area - the smash leaving one (male) dead at the scene. Must surely have been the same incident. Anyone heard anything?

I overheard someone talking about it today at Devils bridge, however they did not seem to have the full details. I gave Hartside a miss today and just shot up and down the Shap road to Pooley Bridge. There was a fatality just outside Hawes on Saturday at about 12 noon and the road was closed for the rest of the day. I was told that it was an head on between 2 bikes and that 2 were heading one way "going hell for leather racing each other" were the words used and one ran wide into an oncoming rider minding his own business. Was the same bend that an aquaintaince of mine was killed on almost exactly 2 years ago to the day.

I don't know what it is about this time of year but all the bad accidents seem to happen in late summer?

I was returning from the Essex Air ambalance run yesterday, which finished at Harwich, when I was held up by the closing of the A12. This was a bike accident which ironically resulted in the air ambalance being called.
Anybody know anymore?
Stay safe out there.

Could be that by this time of year some people start to think:-

I've got faster and faster all through the summer and now i'm invincible, I'm a God''

I spend a lot of time in North Wales and some of the antics I see at week-ends are suicidal. Bikes and cars overtaking across double whites on blind crests and corners.

Stay safe out there.

Roger and myself rolled up to the crash on Sunday. We got off the A12 at the junction just before it and then rode over the top of the bridge from were we saw the helicopter at the seen.
Sad end to a great day out. Hope the lady pulls through.

I don’t know what it costs to scramble that ambulance but if it makes the difference to that lady or any serious accident victim it’s never too much. I like to think that if the worst did happen God forbid, that thing would swoop down and pick me up quick as poss. rather than having to lay there wile an ambulance tried to battle though the traffic.

The reporters figure for the bike turnout Hmmm, seemed to be more than two and a have thousand bikes to me.

A guy on a Rocket Three drooped it next to me at a roundabout. He was a big old boy. Lots of people picked his bike up but I was the only one to give him a hand up. Ended up him sort of pulling himself up me, F**k he was like giant haystacks. Brushed him off a bit and he was on his way, must have been about five bystanders to get that bike up off him though. Late at night on a country crossroads he would have been there in the morning. Rule 1 always buy a bike you can get out from underneath if you drop it.

Good seeing you there Col hope to see you at DD brands at the weekend

Cheers Eric.
I wish I'd taken your mobile number then we could have met up at Harwich. I met up with Martin (748Mart) and Glenn(Trigg). The radio said 5000 bikes, I think this was nearer the mark.
Hopefully I will be able to make Brands.

R I P lady

I wish everyone could have made it home that day,

I didn't see any crazy riding during the day, just all out enjoying the bystanders waving.
