took my 04 749s in for it's first annual service yesterday and mentioned that it keeps cutting out at junctions/roundabouts etc sometimes with a pop from the exhaust. also that the throttle is like an on/off switch when trying to gently apply power mid corner which is unsettling the bike. i was told this model has a defect and needs an ecu mod and possibly new throttle bodies all replaced under warranty but as the bike was purchased new at DK motorcycles (not a dealer) and therfore not an 'official' import they would not do it and it's up to DK to sort it out. it will cost at least £600 to sort and if it needs throttle bodies god knows how much. i'm not very happy as it's not even a component failure but a factory recognised defect which DK couldn't possibly sort out as they dont have the equipment. has anyone had a similar fueling/dealer problem with an 04 749s?
Yikes, not heard that story before. 749's do suffer fuelling problems with slow running which is usually sorted out at first service. Mine was like that, kept cutting out just as I was about to pull out of a junction. I'm not aware that there are any differences between the 03 that I have and the 04 model, unless it is down to a batch of ECUs but then the throttle body thing makes no sense then.
Have you tried phoning a different dealer to see if they tell the same story? Try giving Craig at Italia in Lincoln a ring on 01522 888748 and ask what they know? I am confident you won't get any BS from them.
Had / Have the same problem with mine, been in to dealer 3 times and is now alot better but will still stall now and again. No new parts were fitted, was told they had a new tool to help with set up.
my heads still a little scrambled from getting up so early to watch the gp. so what you're saying skidlids is set it up for a 1999 Fiat Punto non-UK and adjust the butterfly screw by a 1/4 turn open? would a pc3/dyno cure it cos i'll probably go that route eventually just didnt want to yet.
yep, i was shocked at throttle bodies but thats what they said if the ecu didn't cure it. i'll give italia a bell on monday and see what they say.
DUCK ............ you have been told a load of Bull about the warranty etc. It's just the dealer being awkward for the sake of it.
I had a problem with my 2003 749s which is an import. The dealer (who will remain nameless) identified that I needed new ECU and Clocks, but, would not do it under warranty as the Ducati computer showed my bike as being in a crate in Europe and not on the road in the UK. The dealer claimed it was Ducati UK that would not cover the warranty and not the dealer , he was trying to help me ?????
I phoned Ducati direct ready to give them a round of f***s on the phone, only to talk with a great guy who could not see what my (or the dealers) problem was. Ducati UK simply said that I had to have the bike PDI'd by an authorised Ducati dealer who would then register it on the Ducati UK computer system. All work after that was sorted under warranty. I did have to pay for the PDI which was about 2 hours labour.
Go back to your dealer and at worst case pay for a PDI ... AND NO MORE.

i emailed ducatiuk last night so i'll see what they have to say. i'll give them a phone as well and see if i can get the same response. i think theres no question they should do it as its a factory defect. thanks for the offer of help if i need it
refers to the revised cam timing specs for 749S ’04 models as detailed in service information re: stalling at idle. Simply changing the centreline settings for the cams to reduce overlap. It amazes me that such a small change in timing can have such a pronounced effect on how the bikes idle
